A collision claim runs on two tracks. One is the repair itself. The other is everything around it: the estimate your insurer has to approve, the photos and documentation, the rental, the billing. When your collision centre and your insurance company already work together, that second track stops being your job. CSN 427 Auto is an approved repair shop for most major insurers in Ontario, and our family has been repairing vehicles for over five decades.
People hear "approved shop" often and rarely hear what it changes. This is what it changes when your car is here.
What does it mean to be an insurer-approved body shop?
Insurers keep a list of repair shops whose work they know. The Insurance Bureau of Canada puts the reason plainly: an insurer may suggest its preferred shops so it can confirm the quality of the work. In practice, the insurer knows how we repair vehicles, and we know how each insurer needs estimates, photos and invoices submitted.
That familiarity is most of the value. An estimate written the way your insurer's system expects moves through review faster. Our insurance partners page shows the companies we work with, including Intact, Aviva, TD Insurance, Desjardins, Co-operators, Allstate, CAA and Wawanesa.
What do we handle for you?
The repair side of your claim, start to finish. We coordinate with your insurer at every step, which starts with the estimate and the documentation your adjuster needs to approve it. Once the car is apart, any additional damage goes from our estimator to your adjuster directly. Modern vehicles hide a lot behind their panels, so that second round is a normal part of the job, and our post on repair planning explains how it works.
Billing goes the same way. With direct billing, we invoice your insurance company ourselves, so the forms and follow-up calls stay with us. If the car can't be driven, our preferred towing provider is on standby around the clock. If you need a vehicle while yours is being repaired, there are car rental companies on-site at our facility, so drop-off and pick-up happen in one stop.
Who decides how your car gets repaired?
The manufacturer's repair procedures set the method, and your insurer approves the estimate built on them. As an insurer-recommended repair centre, we follow the original manufacturer's standards on every job. That covers the steps you'd expect and the ones you might not, like the scans and ADAS calibration that are now part of nearly every repair on a newer car.
Parts are settled claim by claim. Ontario's standard auto policy lets an insurer approve new parts from the original manufacturer or other parts of like kind and quality. We have access to genuine manufacturer parts, and where a procedure calls for a specific part or step, we share the manufacturer's documentation with your adjuster so the approval is straightforward. Our post on OEM parts and your repair covers the parts side in more depth.
Is the choice of repair shop still yours?
Yes. Ontario's insurance regulator, FSRA, lists choosing your repair shop among your rights as a consumer. Your insurer can recommend a shop, and the decision is yours. We covered that fully in can your insurer choose your body shop. A partnership simply means that when you choose us, your insurer already knows how we work.
Questions we hear a lot
What if my insurance company isn't on your list?
Bring the car in. We repair vehicles for customers of any insurer and coordinate with your adjuster the same way. A partnership makes the file move faster, and it has never been a condition of having your car repaired here.
Do I pay you or does my insurer?
With direct billing, we bill your insurer for the covered repair. Your insurer confirms whether a deductible applies to your claim and how much it is.
Does this apply to work trucks and vans?
It does. Our 13,000-square-foot truck shop works directly with your insurer the same way, and a fast approval matters even more when the vehicle earns its keep on the road.
If you have a claim open, book your repair online or call us at 416-259-6344, and bring your claim number if you have one. Tell your insurer the car is coming to CSN 427 Auto at 395 Evans Avenue and we'll take the file from there.
